Dear SHAPE America Members:

On behalf of the SHAPE America Board of Directors, I am so pleased to tell you that we have voted to add Baker Harrell, Ph.D., Founder and CEO of IT'S TIME TEXAS, to our Board of Directors as a non-voting member. At the Delegate Assembly last year, delegates voted as part of our new SHAPE America bylaws, an opportunity to expand the board's wealth of knowledge and expertise to individuals beyond the elected leadership.

About Baker HarrellBaker Harrell

Baker's background and expertise in new media, social movement theory, and health marketing drive the efforts of IT'S TIME TEXAS. In less than two years, IT'S TIME TEXAS has become the preeminent community health organization in the Lone Star State.

A first-of-its-kind cause organization, IT'S TIME TEXAS empowers people to lead healthier lives and build healthier communities. This year, for instance, IT'S TIME TEXAS and H-E-B will help schools across the state earn more than $100,000 for healthy school projects that help students lead healthier lives and perform better academically, ultimately making an impact on the health of more than five million Texans in over 550 communities.

Among his prior ventures in the public health arena, Baker has received the Best Practices Health and Fitness Award from the Texas Department of State Health Services and a Most Promising Initiative award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Baker completed his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master's in Health Education with a concentration in childhood obesity. His philosophy of empowering people to initiate pro-social change is reflected in the work of IT'S TIME TEXAS and supported by Baker's interdisciplinary, doctoral research, which focused on the intersection of social movement studies, social marketing, and public health.

I hope you will all join me in welcoming Baker Harrell to SHAPE America!
