JoAnn D_NJAHPERDLongtime SHAPE America Member Up for Volunteer of the Year!

Longtime SHAPE America and New Jersey Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NJAHPERD) member JoAnn Doherty is up for The Barclays Volunteer of the Year. Over the years, NJAHPERD has been able to receive charity money through JoAnn's volunteer efforts as a "will call" co-chair for the Barclays. The funds have gone to health, physical and dance education programs for students in New Jersey.

For the first time ever, The Barclays is sponsoring a friendly competition to see what volunteer can receive the most votes from friends, family and organization members and win the coveted prize of $10,000 for The First Tee golf program in schools.

Doherty, a big supporter of the youth golf program, would like to see First Tee in every school's PE program in New Jersey. As an additional incentive, for the volunteer who gets the most votes, the tournament will make a $5,000 donation in honor of him/her, to a qualified charitable organization approved by the PGA TOUR tournament.  If Doherty wins the title, she will have the funds donated to NJAHPERD to go toward exemplary programs for students. Voting is one time only and ends Saturday, August 29, vote here.
