Olympians Gail Devers & Manteo Mitchell to Join USATF with RunJumpThrow at SHAPE America's 130th National Convention & Expo in Seattle

RESTON, VA, February 26, 2015 –USA Track & Field Hall of Famer Gail Devers and Olympic medalist Manteo Mitchell will address the General Session of SHAPE America - Society of Health and Physical Educators' 130th National Convention & Expo on Friday, March 20, 2015 in Seattle, Washington, speaking about USATF's RunJumpThrow program. More than 5,000 health and physical education teachers as well as other physical activity professionals are expected to attend the largest gathering of its kind in the country.

To be hosted by SHAPE America President-Elect Steve Jefferies of Central Washington University, the program focus will be on exposing educators to the wide variety of ways children can be physically active from the Presidential Youth Fitness Program (PYFP) to RunJumpThrow to Jump Rope For Heart. The athletes will be joined by Olympian Caitlin Cahow, a member of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports &Nutrition, and Kenneth H. Cooper, MD, MPH, founder and chairman emeritus of The Cooper Institute.

A retired three-time Olympic gold medalist and five-time World Champion in track and field, Devers was born in Seattle. In 2011 she was elected to the National Track and Field Hall of Fame and in 2012 made the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame. Manteo Mitchell quickly became a story at the 2012 London Olympic Games.Running for Team USA in the preliminaries of the 4 x 400m relay, Mitchell suffered a broken leg roughly 200 meters into his 400-meter race. When most would have quit, Mitchell finished his leg of the relay and helped Team USA to the fastest time ever run in the prelims in the event at the Olympic Games.Team USA would go on to win a silver medal.

RunJumpThrow is a turnkey, educational learning program developed by USA Track & Field and The Hershey Company.The program introduces kids ages seven through 12 to the basic skills of running, jumping and throwing through fun, hands-on track and field learning events. To learn more, go to
