Central Connecticut State Teacher Honored With National Award
RESTON, VA, April 4, 2016 — Carol Ciotto, an associate professor of physical education and human performance at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT, will be honored with the Teacher Education Honor Award by SHAPE America – Society of Health and Physical Educators. The award, which recognizes recipients for exemplary, innovative work that impacts teacher education, will be presented at the Professional Excellence Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 7, during the SHAPE America National Convention & Expo in Minneapolis.
Ciotto has been an educator for more than 34 years. She currently teaches and serves as the Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) coordinator in the Department of Physical Education and Human Performance. She is also a member of the Connecticut Cadre of Physical Education Trainers and Connecticut State Teacher Evaluation Development Team, and is a K-12 physical and health education curriculum development consultant for various Connecticut public schools.

Throughout her career, Ciotto has been an active member of the Connecticut Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CTAHPERD), serving as vice president of physical education, vice president of dance, and president. She has also held several leadership positions within SHAPE America Eastern District and currently serves as executive director. At the national level, she has been a reviewer for both grants and programs, and has been a regular participant at SHAPE America SPEAK Out! Day.
