soccerThe Program Improvement in Physical Education (PIPEline) workshop series provides state of the art, standards-based in-service training for K-12 physical educators. 

PIPEline workshops are developed by:

PIPEline workshops are also perfect for pre-conference workshops and university seminars for physical education majors.  

Workshop Descriptions 
Assessment Strategies K-12 Physical Education

Learn to assess students at different grade levels using standards-based assessments. Workshop participants will explore a variety of assessment techniques as well as discussing the when and why of assessment. Teacher administered assessments along with peer- and self-assessments are demonstrated during the workshop for the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains. Checklists, rubrics, student projects, and student portfolios highlighted.

Curriculum Development K-12 Physical Education

This workshop is intended for physical education teachers, curriculum supervisors, and educational entities preparing to go through the process of writing a new physical education curriculum or updating an existing one. Participants go through the process of understanding and reflecting on national, state, and district physical education standards in order to use them as a basis for curriculum development. The importance of essential content, a spiraling K-12 curriculum, planned scope and sequence, and skill progression is emphasized. After attending this workshop, participants will have the resources necessary to develop a comprehensive curriculum tailored to their local needs.

Instructional Models in Standards-based Physical Education

This PIPEline workshop demonstrates how to implement three instructional models in a standards-based physical education program. The three models included in this workshop are: Sport Education, Teaching Games for Understanding, and Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility. Ultimate frisbee, speedball, and badminton/pickleball will be explored by the participants in a very active hands-on format. Participants will be encouraged to implement these instructional models individually or in combination in their existing physical education programs using the physical education unit materials provided.

Instructional Practices K-12 Physical Education

Best practices in teaching K-12 physical education are demonstrated through standards-based instruction. Through reading about and participating in demonstration lessons, teachers will reinforce their knowledge of establishing the learning environment, offering students instant activities, providing instruction using different teaching styles, assessing student learning, and promoting critical thinking.
