Presidential Youth Fitness Program (PYFP) / 1-5 p.m.
This Empowering Fitness Education Champions training provides an opportunity for physical educators to learn all aspects of PYFP implementation, including alignment of PYFP with national, state, and local PE standards, program implementation strategies, and use of fitness assessment data. This workshop will also take you through the FitnessGram® protocols and the eight-step process, as well as teaching strategies to teach fitness education. We will also "tour" the PYFP website.

Nancy Eklund is the executive director of SHAPE America Central District as well as the executive director of SHAPE Wyoming.
Instructor — Tracy Nelson
Tracy Nelson is the PETE program coordinator at South Dakota State University and executive director of SHAPE South Dakota. She has taught developmentally appropriate PE/health at all levels, and has also developed and implemented a hybrid high school personal fitness/lifetime activities course. Go Jacks.
Instructor —Jennifer Reeves
Jennifer Reeves recently retired from her full-time position at the University of Arizona and is currently a part-time research associate research scientist in the university’s Nutritional Sciences Department. She is also the wellness coordinator for the Tucson Unified School District.
Sport Education: A Teaching Model That Never Grows Old / 1-5 p.m.
Would you like to be able to improve class behavior and attendance, make students responsible for their own learning, and add peer, teacher, and self-assessments to your curriculum? The sport education model can do this as well as include all national standards. Activities will be used to show these assessments and sport education in action. Use this highly effective model as a step toward 50 Million Strong immediately.
Instructor —Charla Krahnke
Charla Krahnke is a National Board Certified Teacher and the 2013 SHAPE America National High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year. She retired in 2014 after 31 years of teaching/coaching in Wake County, NC.
Student Leadership Workshop / 1-5 p.m.
This workshop (for students only) offers future professionals an opportunity to gather with other aspiring professionals from across Central District. Come spend an afternoon networking and gaining tools you can use after finding your first job.
The workshop will include the following topics:
- 1-2 p.m. — Surviving the First Year of Teaching – A Toolbox for Success

- 2-3 p.m. — Utilizing Technology to Enhance Assessment
(Megan Adkins - University of Nebraska Kearney)
- 3-4 p.m. — Leadership Opportunities for Young Professionals
(Joe Deutsch - North Dakota State University)
- 4-5 p.m. — Finding and Thriving in Your First Teaching Position
(Panel discussion with 5-7 public and private school teachers including Amy Heuer, Central District Past President, and Clayton Ellis, Central District President)
