Virginia held its annual convention this year in Roanoke, VA. We had 450 members in attendance and had more than 100 programs. Our keynote speaker was Deb Tackmann.
 
This year VAHPERD started on its third year of a grant from DMV. “Choose Your Vibe — Stay Alive” is a three-part project that uses youth social media engagement campaigns to norm non-drinking behavior and alcohol-free driving, engage youth in a peer-peer approach, and increase the messaging around underage drinking and impaired driving at the local school-community level. This has been a success for VAHPERD and we have applied for another year of funding.
 
We are continuing to work with our lobbyist to advocate for HPERD programs and legislation. We held another successful lobby day this past January and hope to continue to step up our advocacy efforts even more next year.
