What is a virtual race?

A virtual race is a race you can organize and complete anywhere in the world! You choose how, when and where you want to do your race. You don’t even have to do it all in one day! You can walk, run on a treadmill, ride your bike outside, or move in another way. A virtual race allows people of all ages, speeds and abilities to compete without time restrictions and large crowds at traditional races.

Big Feats Virtual race participants set their own movement and/or distance goals and complete the race on their own time, at their own pace — and at any location they choose.

Why is SHAPE America holding a virtual race?

SHAPE America is holding a virtual race to raise much-needed funds for schools selected through the SHAPE America Impact Schools Grant Program. Eighty percent of all funds raised during the Big Feats Virtual Race will be allocated to these 10 schools. The remaining funds will be used by SHAPE America and its participating state affiliates to support advocacy efforts and professional development for health and physical education programs at the state and national levels.

How do I register for the virtual race? Is my registration tax-deductible?

Click “Join the Movement” from the Fundraising landing page on our website to register. Registration is $25 per individual. Registration fees are not tax-deductible; however, any donations you make to your own fundraising account may be tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

I’m already registered for another race in my town. Can I still complete the virtual race?

Yes! You can run your virtual race alongside your marathon, 5K or other race. Complete your Big Feats virtual race registration and you can fundraise for SHAPE America, too.

What do I get when I register?

Everyone who chooses to participate in the Big Feats Virtual Race must complete an individual registration for $25. Your registration automatically includes a Big Feats medal, a virtual goody bag filled with coupons and discounts and a digital race bib. If you raise an additional $25 through donations you will also receive a pair of Big Feats socks. The top 3 individual fundraisers will also win free travel, housing and registration to the 2019 SHAPE America National Convention & Expo in Tampa. (see full contest rules for details.)

Are there added incentives for schools that participate?

Yes! Schools are encouraged to consider using the Big Feats virtual race as a community service project for employee wellness programs and students. To register as a school team you must first register as an individual and designate that you are a teacher raising funds as a school team. Once your individual registration is complete, you can create a school team. As an added incentive for school team participation, Gopher Sport and SHAPE America are providing a free SHAPE America membership and one set of 30 Gopher FITstep™ Pro Uploadable Pedometers (a $900+ value) for any school team that raises $2000 or more during the Big Feats Virtual Race. Please note only one pedometer set and one free membership will be awarded per school.

How far is the virtual race?

There is no set distance. You set your own location, distance and goal! Personalize the race to meet your level for a healthy challenge and the feeling of accomplishment. Have small children? Break up your activity into smaller chunks! Take movement breaks whenever works best for you and track your pace.

How do you win a virtual race?

In SHAPE America's Big Feats Virtual Race, there are no winners or losers! Achieve your movement goals and be proud of your determination and progress in achieving them.
