RESTON, VA, August 4, 2020 — SHAPE America ‒ Society of Health and Physical Educators is pleased to announce the selection of Sean Nevills as project director of the COVID-19 project, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Nevills most recently served as director of health and physical education with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. He is a former high school physical education teacher and head football coach. Nevills has also taught adapted physical education and served on health & PE curriculum development teams, wellness committees, and equity, diversity, and inclusion task forces throughout the state of Missouri.
“We are excited to welcome Sean on board to lead the development of resources and tools that health and physical educators need to navigate new models of learning during COVID-19,” says Carly Wright, SHAPE America’s vice president of advocacy and equity, diversity, and inclusion. “His experience in education will be an asset to the SHAPE America team.”
Over the one-year cooperative agreement period, Nevills will be leading efforts to create resources and professional development around the topics of culturally responsive teaching in health and PE, teacher self-care, trauma-informed practice, distance learning, and teaching in person with physical distancing.
