For more than a decade, SHAPE America has worked to build relationships on Capitol Hill and to educate legislators about the value of health and physical education. We have established a strong voice for our profession, which has led to more federal support and funding for health and physical education programs. Why were we able to achieve these successes? Because our voices are stronger together.
We must continue harnessing the "power of us" to ensure that health and physical education remain a priority. This year, SHAPE America has set a goal to raise $10,000 to help HPE teachers attend SPEAK Out! Day 2022 (February 15-16, 2022) in Washington, DC. When health and physical educators share their personal stories with members of Congress about how HPE can make a difference in students' health and lives, it sends a very powerful message.
