health. moves. minds.: The School Fundraiser Built for HPE

SHAPE America’s school fundraising program, health. moves. minds.®, powered by Booster, helps you raise funds for HPE equipment, playground supplies, and more — while creating an experience that builds a stronger, healthier school community.

During the fundraiser, students engage in lessons and activities built around The Kindness Code, a character development experience that teaches empathy, perseverance, and other lifelong skills. Students and staff come together around a shared goal, and participating schools receive at least 50% of funds raised to invest in what matters most.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? We’ve answered a few of the most common ones below.

Who can organize a health. moves. minds. fundraiser?

health. moves. minds. is designed to be led by a school’s health or physical education teacher, although many schools involve classroom teachers, administrators, parent organizations, and other volunteers to support a successful fundraiser. Each school can customize its fundraiser by choosing the celebration event and approach that best fit its students, schedule, and goals.

What support will I receive?

Every participating school is paired with a dedicated Booster coach who will guide you from planning through celebration. Your coach will answer questions, help you create a timeline, and work with you to build a fundraiser that reflects your school’s unique goals and your ‘why.’

You’ll also receive an easy-to-use fundraising platform, promotional materials, student resources, planning tools, and access to the Team Champion Exchange community, where you can connect with other educators, ask questions, and access additional resources. You’re never expected to figure it out on your own.

What timeline should we expect for a health. moves. minds. fundraiser?

health. moves. minds. fundraisers can be held anytime during the school year. We recommend beginning the planning process 6-8 weeks before your kickoff to give yourself time to coordinate with school administrators, communicate with families, and prepare for a successful launch. The fundraiser itself typically lasts 2-3 weeks, followed by a celebration event that recognizes students’ efforts and brings the school community together. Your Booster coach will help you create a timeline that works for your school, whether you’re planning months in advance or getting started on a shorter timeline.

What grade levels is health. moves. minds. designed for?

health. moves. minds. is designed for students in grades K-12, and schools of all grade levels participate each year. The program includes a K-12 standards-aligned Lesson Library with age-appropriate lessons and activities for each grade band (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12). Each lesson also includes suggested modifications and accommodations to support all learners.

Schools can choose from a variety of celebration events — from fun runs and dance parties to school-wide wellness events — and customize the overall experience to reflect their students, school culture, and goals. Your Booster coach can help you tailor the fundraiser to your students’ ages, interests, and your school’s goals.

In addition to K-12 schools, health. moves. minds. also offers a fundraising model for university PETE/HETE clubs. University clubs can raise funds to support travel, equipment, and club initiatives while introducing future health and physical educators to health. moves. minds. lessons and activities before they enter the classroom.

How much money do schools typically receive?

Every health. moves. minds. fundraiser returns at least 50% of the funds raised directly back to your school, giving you the flexibility to invest in your health and physical education program or school-wide projects and initiatives. During the 2025-2026 school year, participating schools raised an average of $6,383, receiving an average of $3,489 back in cash.

Teachers who lead the fundraiser also earn a Gopher gift card equal to 5% of funds raised, plus a $250 bonus match provided by Booster. During the 2025-2026 school year, Team Champions earned an average of $539 in Gopher gift cards to purchase equipment and supplies for their school. Schools that choose to invest their cash proceeds with Gopher can also take advantage of an exclusive 20% match, helping their fundraising dollars go even further.  Learn more about maximizing your Gopher benefits.

How does health. moves. minds. support student learning?

health. moves. minds. is designed to complement — not replace — your health and physical education program. Throughout the fundraiser, students participate in standards-aligned lessons and activities that help them build lifelong skills such as empathy, cooperation, communication, perseverance, goal setting, and responsible decision-making. As they work together toward a shared goal, students also experience the value of teamwork, service, and making a positive impact in their school and community.

Students engage in age-appropriate character development experiences that are refreshed each year through the program’s annual theme. For middle school educators, health. moves. minds. also includes skills-based health education lessons aligned to the National Health Education Standards, providing additional resources to support required health instruction.

What happens after I register?

Once you register, we’ll help you take it one step at a time. You’ll be connected with a dedicated Booster coach who will schedule a planning call to learn about your school’s goals and your “why.” Together, you’ll build a timeline, choose a celebration event, and prepare for a successful kickoff.

From there, your Booster coach will guide you through each stage of the fundraiser — from communicating with families and preparing students to celebrating your success. You’ll also gain access to the health. moves. minds. Team Champion Exchange community, where you can connect with other educators, ask questions, and share ideas along the way.
