National Physical Education Standards Task Force

SHAPE America is proud to champion and safeguard the National Physical Education Standards, which serve as the foundation for high-quality PE programs across the country.

In early 2021, SHAPE America’s National Physical Education Standards Task Force began the national standards revision process. The task force received feedback from PETE faculty/professors, preK-12 practitioners, and preK-12 students. As part of this work, they hosted town halls, distributed a Student Voice Survey (which received more than 4,600 responses), and facilitated three rounds of public review and comment.

The revision process is now complete, and the new SHAPE America National Physical Education Standards were released on March 12 at the SHAPE America National Convention & Expo in Cleveland.
