Southern District Honor Award

The SHAPE America Southern District Honor Award recognizes meritorious contributions to the fields of physical education, health education, sport and leisure, and/or dance, or to the profession through such allied fields as science and education. 

Qualifications
  • Be at least 40 years of age with 10 years of meritorious service in Southern District;
  • Be a member of SHAPE America for at least five continuous years prior to receiving the award; and live in the district at the time of the award;
  • Be a contributor within the fields of physical education, health education, sport and leisure and dance, or to the profession through such allied fields as science and education;
  • Be of high moral character whose contributions have most fully expressed the spirit of service, which the award represents.

(Previous Southern District Honor Award recipients, deceased members, and members who have moved out of the District are not eligible; nor should the award be given because a person holds a particular office, job, or position. The Honor Award is a district-wide award – professionals making an outstanding state or local contribution should be recognized by the appropriate state affiliate.)

Any SHAPE America member who resides in Southern District may nominate candidates for the Honor Award. Nominations will be accepted only by written letter. In the nomination letter, the nominator should include the candidate's current address, phone number and e-mail contact information, as well as reasons why s/he believes that the candidate deserves consideration for the Honor Award. The 2018 Honor Award will be presented at the 2019 SHAPE America National Convention & Expo in Tampa, FL.
