Get Charged Up!

Sudden cardiac arrest is the #1 killer of student athletes and the leading cause of death on school campuses, though most schools are underprepared to respond to a cardiac emergency, in contrast to the ample time and resources invested in fire protection readiness.

Parent Heart Watch partnered with SHAPE America to implement Get Charged Up!, a program to empower health and physical educators to equip their schools with Cardiac Emergency Response Plans (CERP) to protect young hearts. Selected participants earned a free automated external defibrillator (AED) for their school when they worked internally to implement the five-step CERP.

I was so happy to be a part of Get Charged Up through SHAPE America and Parent Heart Watch.

Without these organizations, our school would have not been able to acquire an additional AED as well as become a Heart Safe School.
