Materials for Grades 9-12

Mini Lessons

The following mini-lessons teach important concepts that were taught in grades K-8 throughout the health. moves. minds.® service-learning program and are designed to be implemented in a teacher’s already existing health education and physical education curriculum. The concepts covered include mindfulness, kindness, empowerment, and equity diversity & inclusion. In grades 9-12, the skill of advocacy is introduced. These mini-lessons focus on combining previously taught skills to make healthy decisions. In high school students will learn how to select and apply strategies to deal with stress and other complex emotions and how being kinder and more inclusive can improve their overall emotional and physical health. In addition, that advocating for yourself and your peers is an important aspect to improving the overall health, climate and the emotional and physical health of their school. The key message is that it’s equally healthy to take care of your mind as it is your body. It’s important to note, the mini-lessons may need to be adjusted by the teacher to accommodate the unique attributes and diversity of individual classes and students.
