SHAPE America Announces 2025 National Teachers of the Year in Adapted Physical Education, Health Education, and Physical Education
RESTON, VA, April 16, 2025 — SHAPE America – Society of Health and Physical Educators announced and honored the 2025 National Teacher of the Year recipients at the SHAPE America National Convention & Expo, which was held in Baltimore, April 1-5. The five winners were recognized for excellence in adapted physical education, health education, and physical education.
The Teacher of the Year awards are given in recognition of outstanding teaching performance and the ability to motivate today's youth to participate in a lifetime of physical activity. The national winners were all previously recognized at the state and district level.
The 2025 SHAPE America National Teachers of the Year are:
- Adapted Physical Education — Brad Hunter, Federal Hill Preparatory School, Baltimore, MD
- Health Education — Sandee Ortiz, Sun Prairie West High School, Sun Prairie, WI
- Elementary Physical Education — Thomas Gelardi, P.S. 173 The Fresh Meadow School, Fresh Meadows, NY
- Middle School Physical Education — Courtney Lukasavitz, Indian Community School, Franklin, WI
- High School Physical Education — Lisa Smith, Lakeville South High School, Lakeville, MN
