Daryl Siedentop was a professor at The Ohio State University for over four decades. When he passed away in 2021 he had become one of the most renowned scholars in the field of physical education and kinesiology, both nationally and internationally. Among many honors and accolades, Siedentop was a 2006 NASPE Hall of Fame inductee and 2010 recipient of AAHPERD’s Luther H. Gulick Award.
His work is regarded as impactful as the work by eminent physical education leaders such as William G. Anderson, Rosalind Cassidy, Luther Gulick, Delphine Hanna, Charles H. McCloy, Clark Hetherington, Dudley Sargent, and Thomas Wood.
The Daryl Siedentop Scholar Lecture is presented in recognition of research/creative activities which enrich the depth and scope of health, leisure, sport, dance and related activities. The lecture, which was previously known as the “SHAPE America Scholar Lecture” was renamed the “Daryl Siedentop Scholar Lecture” in 2022 to honor his contributions to and the impact on the field of physical education.
